Besides composing Dido and Aeneas, one of the two greatest English operas, Purcell also composed 9 secular cantatas for 2 or more voices and for special occasions. a large number of works called odes for solo voices, chorus and orchestras. Because of the larger amount of resources required, these works are not considered chamber music.
