Hi(gh), Hey, Hello There!

i'm here because another music forum (who's name i will not mention, but i would imagine y'all can guess) does not really allow folks who don't know that much about music to be part of their group. They are, to quote them, "Music Elitists," whatever that means... What it ended up meaning to me was that everything i said was attacked; everything i said was twisted; and i was told, in no uncertain terms, that i was no longer welcome there.

Why?

Because i believe in God, and it has something to do with how i feel about things, in general;

and because i came in, asking for help.

Oh, they let me know that i was expected to make "worthwhile" contributions to their music reviews and all, but i told them over and over, i rate music like this: A) Excellent; B) Okay, i can listen to it; or C) i'm outta here. In other words, i don't know spit from shinola about reviewing an album, and since i usually make variety mixes of the A) Excellent songs, i may never be able to do an album review. If i did, it would be so bogus as to be ridiculous.

Man, you don't know how much i am hoping that y'all are just regular people, 'cuz i'm sort of not...

i've lived all over the world. i started school when i was 4, in french Morocco, in a french parochial school. As soon as i was put into an American accreditted school, i was IQ tested, and the results were disgustingly high. i skipped grades, graduated HS when i was 14, and fought tooth and nail with my peeps (parents) about my 'intelligence,' and how best to use it. i don't believe that what they think is so important, actually IS so important...

i've had a BUNCH of careers ~ i was a computer programmer; i was a nurse; i was a CPA; i hold a CDL with all endorsements, including School Bus, Hazmat, and Chauffeur; i've been a beer-tender ; a pool sharp; a telemarketer; and the old standby, a waitress!

Oh, hey! i'm 54 years old.

i've seen Pink Floyd, in concert, at an outdoor concert in Japan. i've also met the band. Year = like '71

i've seen Elton John, Deep Purple, and John Mayall in concert.

i love music, and lived through a bunch of the beginnings of this, that and the other genres. i don't understand y'all's genres... In my day, everything was Folk, Folk-Rock, Rock, Acid Rock, Heavy Rock, Pop Rock, and Bubblegum Pop. Well, Jazz, Blues, Opera, Classical, Gospel and any others were also out there, but i didn't listen to them, too much. Anyway, even if i seem like an idiot, i'm not ~ i'm just ignorant of the knowledge i need.

Okay, well, we sort of skipped over Guam (the beginning of the grade skipping years), but i lived there for the worst typhoon in (i think...) history ~ Typhoon Karen, with 270mph+ wind gusts, catagory 5, UNREAL! The Exchange (on-base like an older, not super, WalMart) was a quonset hut right across the street from us. It was blown away.

Next stop, Cali. The desert. This is when i first became interested in music, besides the children's stuff i grew up with. Hello, MONKEYS! Yeah, i was "in luv" with Peter Tork, even if he WAS a dork! ROFL Then, David McCallum made an instrumental album, on which he conducted the orchestra/band. It was okay. (Needless to say, i was "in luv" with Illya Kuyakin from that old show, The Man From UNCLE)

Upward, and onward ~ Japan.

Wow. If i could live anywhere other than here, it would be Japan. The people are so polite and considerate of each other.

Anyway, went to HS in Japan. Fell in real love for the first time, had my heart broken for the first time, first kiss, first sex, first pot (had an out-of-body experience the first time ~ no wonder, smoking Buddah!), first LSD, first everything, almost. (My experiences in Japan would be a novella, by themselves! ROFL)

Came back to Cali; went through culture shock (Cali folks = me, me, me! Not for me? 'Bye!); met my first husband; became a computer programmer.

Hey, you know what? i'm getting bored with myself! More about me will come out in my posts, but i made the (evidently) FATAL error of missing the Introductions thread in the aforementioned forum, so with this, at least you'll know a little bit about who i am.

FAV BANDS/SONGS right now:

Concrete Blonde ~ especially Bloodletting
Nick Cave ~ the 1994 stuff, mostly
Pink
Shakira
Arabian folk music
lots of what y'all would consider Oldies

NO Dylan
NO Joplin
(i'm so sorry, but they whine and can't carry a tune in a bucket! imho)

i can't listen to Pink Floyd anymore (its acid rock, and i don't do that, anymore)
Led Zepplin (heard 'em too much)

Well, this is probably the longest post in this introductions thread, but i just don't want everyone to have to hate me, like they did at the other forum, and i'm hoping that if i let you know where i come from, maybe you'll cut me some slack... One can only hope! ROFL

Welcome!
This is by far the best introductions thread, but... apparently we don't have a contest for that

Stay active in forums that interest you, looking forward to see you around!
